Maybe if she just gotten home, these hornets would leave her alone - at least that was Darcy's thought process. If she could just hide away, they'd leave her be.
She managed to sneak away from them for now and if she was just quiet enough, she could make it.
She was really close, when she turned the corner and basically ran right into Akhila. "Shit, shit, sorry, are you-- are you okay? No hornets chasing you?" she asked, looking around immediately, but they were in the clear, at least for now.

FINISHED.
Darcy could not be serious. A laugh hissed between his teeth. "Stop fucking with me." He shook his head. "Gonna have to explain how this place isn't the simulation."
His head wobbled, small enough it might not be recognized. "When we get out of here, remind me to tell you what happened on the beach." No if we get out. Terribly hopeful, and how dare anyone accuse him of being Mr. Doom and Gloom. "First day I was here, with Selin." Perhaps a conversation when they weren't who knew how many feet underground. With a yowling horror chasing them through the dark.
"I haven't asked anyone else what they go through when the powers kick in. Powers? Not sure what to call it." Or talked to anyone in depth about it. (Or talked to anyone at all, not exactly) "Thought the way I felt, the fever. Thought it was connected to the light."
I'm just a waitress. Or was. Tej felt similarly past tense. And in a tug of war with the desire to go back and knowing full well nothing was left to return to. Darcy rolled more ideas around outloud, and his brows lifted in response. "Yeah. Why not. The island found a way to attach to something in us. Grow something, change us." And the cameras rolled. "Sometimes, I think maybe we're in a conceptual art piece." A faint smile as he half-joked. "Endurance art, I suppose. Huh, wish I'd thought of it."
The 'cameras' inside the caves were the heads of robotic hornets, one which attacked Tej swift and vicious. Later, he would ask himself how to catch the playback. Certainly the strike and sting was recorded. Just like... Qwan.
Once out of harm's way, he reached to keep pressure on the sweater held at one of the puncture wounds. Tej tried not to think how quickly it soaked through. "Yeah, the fucker jabbed me with a leg too."
His head felt like a cork as it bobbed along a wave. (A memory, the tiny pink shoe pushed to a beach on the tide.) Saliva pooled in his mouth, nausea crept into the back of his throat. Darcy's expression, her sigh, her... unexpected threat of murder... shit. (Was the curse over? Had it ended where it began?)
"I almost lost a bag, it was important." How did he feel? "Oh I feel fantastic. Ready to hit the club for sure." A hand wiped hair away from a brow that grew damp, clammy. "Give me just a sec. And we'll get outta here." No clue how. Not entirely coherent and yet as far as he could hear, the hornets had truly flown back into the depths of the cave.
Tej began to gather the strength to get to his feet. Slow moving, he used a rock wall to rest against, hand still clutched the now red sweater at his side. A shallow breath and loopy smile curved a usually flat line of a mouth. "What do they say to get blood out..." Of clothing, was what he meant to say. But he trailed off with a pained, shallow breath. "White vinegar, club soda?"
The admission she'd been stung brought a renewed alertness. "You... Yeah." Quiet for a few long moments, and then his gaze met hers again. "I saw Qwan." Last moments. The vision began to play out again. "He was crawling through the mud. Looked like one of the caves." Made sense, as they'd just seen the smaller drones.
"He didn't make it either. This bigger hornet got him. It had, like. Not just one screen for a head. Must've had, I don't know. Dozens. Dozens upon dozens. Nothing like the ones we just saw. This what happened to Jim, I'm guessing. Same thing." If Darcy had a similar experience with a sting... "Let's get the fuck out of here. Don't need to tempt them again." Or run into the bigger one.
#event 002: the drones#with: tej#tej 002#this felt like such a nice ending#thank you for this it was so much fun#and i cannot wait for these two to get to talk about everything#they have SO MUCH to discuss

Some Murder Drones Episode 7 screenshots I thought were interesting and my thoughts on them :>
SPOILER WARNING!!!! is spoilering
Nori, despite being a middle aged woman with a child, appears to be an Otaku or otherwise likes "edgy" and "scene" stuff, as well as listening to nightcore, very much like her daughter. Good for her tbh you're never too old to have fun
She also has a photo of Khan and what I can only assume is baby Uzi, though it appears to have blue eyes, but maybe it's just the lighting. Still very cute she has a pic of her husband
As well as all the previously mentioned Otaku stuff, she also drew herself as an anime character. She has a skinsona. Phenomenal (pos)
Nothing much here, just Uzi coughing up blood. Girl got the goop (gore) inside of her already
Lab Space. Apparently the Church was just down there and not even the humans know why. The canonicity of this is questionable; it could just be a joke
OT, as per google, stands for "Occupational Therapy". Makes sense for the context, and makes the bottom text funnier
"Fun Time To Universe Big Crunch: 87". The Big Crunch is a hypothetical way the Universe could end, where the universe folds on itself and shrinks into a single point. 87 "what" I don't know. If it's months, that 7 years and 3 months
Honestly the Murder Drones lore is super confusing. I think what this is trying to say is that every other Zombie Drone is doing poorly, (Except for Yeva), they are trying to reactivate 002 (Nori) via the USB. I'm not sure what this means. Maybe they only got the results they wanted from the two of them, and are trying again with Nori since she was the only other one that worked (also why they got Yeva when she failed; this may all be referring to how the episode opened up) Also, the date says SER. As revealed in the episode Cabin Fever, Copper-9 has months that Earth does not. SER most likely stands for Seramorris, the month revealed in that episode
Looks like the "bad event" wasn't the first one. Certainly was the last one though lol
Just a good pic of ghost/hologram V with the scary stuff. Might use this as a wallpaper
You can literally see the hole in his neck where N bit him in...
...And it's to the point his HEAD FALLS OFF. (including because I didn't notice the first time around)
Yup, the idea that Uzi became the Admin for N and V is completely true. I wonder what would've happened if she didn't, since Cyn didn't react whatsoever
friggin bug (very pos)
You would not believe how difficult it was to get a good pic of this (I'm using snipping tool lmao). Always a pleasure to see Uzi's doodles. Things her gun can do (upper right):
NOT judge her
Forced prom date (?)
Allows her to say she had friends before she frickin murdered them with sci-fi machinery
The cut off text at the bottom: Plan B: Normal gun + Shoot really fast
This is while Tessa is looking for something in the lockers. Claws, chains, magnets, Wings, and scribbled "HELP". Looks like the lockers were all specifically to hold the infected worker drones. Oof
We are in the future now baby. We have rererererereCAPTCHA. Funnily enough, it still couldn't stop a robot
There is a message board where someone who doesn't like robots is talking. They also are scared. Also no one else is using this system, which is unsurprising. "Ur aight ;)" Wait is the winky face intentional foreshadowing? Or unintentional?
We get the names of a bunch of other Worker Drones. Unfortunately for all 029 fans, her name was not visible. (also can someone tell me what "JWEB" could be short for?) And Yeva is said to have a patch. That may be the crucible thing idk
Cyn (which I will be calling this version Skyn [Skin + Cyn]) apparently took of the space suit just to give Doll the Withered Foxy jumpscare. Honestly really terrifying. If this photo was teased before release I think the fandom would've exploded
Just N being a good boy :3
The MDs, Cyn's pets. Nori refers to them as "Nerfed" so the "Entity" can ensure control, and says they were made to destroy other hosts. I don't know why Cyn would want them dead, but I'm not the loremaster here. YouTube line is there because I couldn't be bothered after the Railgun image
Probably already confirmed, but doubly confirmed that a symptom of the Solver is giving Drones organic insides. A Worker Drone body with a rib cage and guts. I wonder what would happen if the infection continued uninterrupted (also R.I.P. Doll I loved you :frown:)
I'm sure everyone noticed, but when Uzi tried to manipulate Tessa, the ERROR noticed appeared. Already hinting Tessa is not all she says she is
Apparently the Solver can create Black Hole Saws. Interesting development (Blackhole Blitz)
I know most people (I think) see this as a joke and N just being a bit of goofball. But honestly, I think he did it intentionally to shock Cynuzi and give Nori a chance. In the Pilot, he licked V's sword to surprise her too, which means he isn't unfamiliar with doing something weird and surprising for the advantage
Skyn eating Doll's core. R.I.P. Doll again. Seriously, was that Doll in Core Form like Nori was? Or was Nori a fringe case because she was "Exorcised" and this is just a regular core? Questions, questions. Also yeah the Solver also gives you a Core. Fun
This tag makes me think that this body is Cyn's actual body. Not longer a hologram, but her actual body from the mansion. The reason Tessa gave N, J, and V their names was because that was the first letter of their Serial Designation (she's very uncreative). However, Cyn's tag was slightly faded, which meant her SD couldn't be seen, so Tessa gave her the name "Cyn" after her P/N, even though the other 3 already have the same P/N as Cyn (Tessa, again, is very uncreative)...
...and for some reason, Cyn or the Solver, which ever theory you subscribe to, decided to wear Tessa as a skin suit for some twisted reason. It did help her with the Captcha. Also scary because this doesn't have the right proportions for an adult (unless Cyn really forced that skin on), which leads me to believe that this is a Younger Tessa, and she faked having an older voice. Maybe I shouldn't call her my wife... I'm sure Eldritch J is still available :^)
(Seriously, the eyes are burnt out, leaving two eye holes over the visor, so she gives herself two X eyes so it looks better. Also yeah we found out what that thing on the "It Came From Copper-9" poster came from. It really was Cyn or Skyn)
Just a frame of the final...frame... for coolness. I'm probably also going to use this for a background. Also, this is definitely Copper-9. You can see the ring and ringless moon together on the right. Uzi somehow got sent to orbit after falling in the meat hole
Well that was all for now. This series has consumed me entirely, body and soul, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Goodbye and goodnight

Murder Drones Timeline (As Best As I Can String Together)
This series is known for having a confusing and convoluted timeline. However, when you break everything down based on the information given, it's actually quite simple.
Here, I am going to try to create what I think is the timeline of event for Murder Drones, based on things shown to us, told to us, and blink and you miss it background details.
Before we get started I just wanted to clarify that these dates aren't exact and I'm just going off of rough guesstamates and what feels most realistic.
With all that out of the way let's head back (or in our case, forward) to 3037.
3037
Tessa Elliot is born to James and Louisa Elliot.
3048 - 3050
Tessa would, against her parents' wishes, go out to the nearest Worker Drone graveyard and rescue any of the still-functioning Zombie Drones she found, bringing them back to the mansion, repairing them, and adopting them as her own. The last of these being Cyn.
3051
The Elliot family would host a gala, during which the Solver (through Cyn's body) would attack and murder all the attendees, including Tessa. Although faithful to its word it wouldn't discard her, and would instead wear her skin as copy her voice. It would also use the Zombie Drones to repurpose them into Disassembly Drones.
The Solver uses these Disassembly Drones to massacre all the humans on Earth, sending them to other human colonized exoplanets around the galaxy to wipe them out there as well.
The humans on Copper 9 learn about this, and try to find a way to defeat the Solver by removing it from the systems of infected Workers. This led to the start of the Cabin Fever Labs Project, where they would purposefully infect Workers with the Solver to learn about it with the end goal of developing antivirus programs that could successfully remove it from their code.
During an attempt to exorcise the Solver from Subject 002, otherwise known as Nori, the procedure goes horribly wrong and 002 and 048, also known as Yeva, end up triggering a core collapse. Causing a wave of frigid and toxic air to blow across the planet's surface killing all biological life.
Nori and Yeva are shot up to the planet's surface, where they are later found, rescued, and taken in by a Worker named Khan and his group.
Several ships land on Copper 9, each one filled with a trio of a new drone type known as Disassembly Drones or, as they would come to be called by the Workers, Murder Drones. Causing the Worker Drones to flee to the bunkers in fear of them.
3053
Khan and Nori have their child, Uzi.
3055
Nori is attacked by a Disassembly Drone, presumably N, and left to die. With Khan finding her and putting her out of her misery by beating her with a wrench.
3071
Events of the show.

Zaid was in some kind of shock. Darcy wasn't quite sure why, but it seemed like he saw something or somebody on the tv screens that got his mind running, spinning, completely losing any kind of focus on what was happening around them and really, if one of the unknown people she saw on the screens was somebody he knew, she got it to some degree, but it was still dangerous. They got lucky that it didn't outright go for them but passed them by, they should not risk anything.
And yet, it still took her some time (what felt like an eternity but it probably wasn't that long) to snap him out of it. Only for him to point out that she's been hurting him all this time. "Shit, sorry, I didn't mean--" she snapped her fingers away and looked over her shoulder again making sure nothing was behind them.
He took her hand then and she squeezed it. "Don't apologize, this shit is-- yeah, it's scary as hell, you're good. We just gotta get out of here." The how was still questionable for Darcy, but she didn't bring it up, instead she just nodded at his suggestion to go exact opposite to where the gigantic hornet was headed. As long as they were getting away from it, they could figure out the rest.
"We need to warn people about this big one. It didn't seem too bothered by us, but if it comes to our base and starts stinging people..." She rubbed the place where the smaller one stung her earlier. "The small one was bad enough, one from this could pretty much kill anyone." Not good prospects, to say the least...
They did end up finding the beach and Darcy breathed a sigh of relief, but it only lasted for a moment. "Do you think there's a chance the mist was intentionally keeping us from the beach somehow until we saw that thing? Almost like-- I don't know, a warning or a taunt or something?" Did the smaller ones chase them to the big one or was it all a coincidence and she saw too much into things?
He brought up the screens and if she saw something on them himself - Darcy wasn't quite sure how to bring up the freezing herself. She originally decided to get back to it once they all dealt with the hornets and they could breathe again, but since he asked... "Yeah, I saw recordings of a bunch of us. That was pretty creepy. And then there were some screens that had scenes and people from the simulation. Or the outside world, if that is better description for you."
She tilted her head, tried to read anything out of his face - he just seemed in his thoughts, really, but there had to have been more about it. "What did you see, Zaid? You just froze, so you had to see something. Or more like somebody you knew before all of this?"
Inika. Inika. Her sweet little face. Dark curls like a halo around her round forehead, so kissable. She was laughing, she was laughing and happy. Not distressed, crying, clinging to him on a windy, cold beach, bawling for Tej-Uncle, wanting to go home, home. Home to Tej-Uncle.
Everything else faded away but her face. Zaid hadn't looked at any photos of her since her funeral, he couldn't bring himself to. Perhaps in those six months of grief and self-pity, he'd secretly hoped he could forget that adorable little face. Maybe it would fade away with time, with moving on. Maybe he could forget.
He was a stupid fucking cunt, for thinking that.
Darcy's voice, soft and urgent, repeating his name. It entered his conscious psyche after a minute or so, and Zaid was caught in a liminal moment of confusion. How was Darcy in New York? Did she know what he'd done to Inika? Was she his friend, helping him pack up his flat, his restaurant, his entire failure of a life?
'Ridiculous, Zuzu,' Zaid reminded himself. 'You have no friends.'
He blinked, and focused on Darcy's earnest, urgent face. She was really quite a beautiful woman, up close. Most people here were beautiful...right. Here. This bloody strange place with powers and robot hornets and no way home.
This all happened in the space of a minute or two, and Zaid shook his head, deciding firmly that what he'd seen on the mega-hornet's TV screen - that pretty little face he'd seen - was wrong. He was mistaken. He was a fucking cunt for even imagining it.
"Right. Right, sorry Darcy, I...right." Zaid pat her hand, then twisted his arm in of her grip when he realized her digging fingers were actually hurting him. "Let me go, you're hurting me, love. We'll - we've got to go, you're right."
Instead, compulsively, Zaid took a hold of Darcy's hand and held it firmly in his. "Right? We'll go, you're right. I'm sorry, I...I dunno what came over me. I'm just scared, I'm sorry, love." He looked around.
"If...if that fucking thing was coming from there, then that's where we'll go. The opposite direction of it, yeah? Away from it. Yeah? Let's go."
Zaid started to walk through the mist with Darcy, and only paused when he heard - with some relief - the sound of water crashing on shore. They were near the beach! He glanced at Darcy and smiled at her, then started walking faster. "Darcy, can I ask you something? Did you...see anything in those...screens? Of that monster hornet?"
#event 002: the drones#with: zaid#zaid 003#my apologies she has way too many questions for this to be good for an ending xD

Event: The Drone part 002 Characters: Evelyn & Zaid @zaidshair Location: Near the medcenter
This place was one disaster after another! If the relentless attacks from those insane robotic hornets weren't enough, now there were these creepy creatures digging everywhere. It was chaos: people scattering, fighting to survive. The whole scene felt too close to some twisted sci-fi movie, and Evelyn could hardly believe it. But ridiculous or not, her instincts kicked in. Agent training didn’t just disappear, and she moved into fight mode without a second thought, scanning for threats and bracing herself for whatever came next.
Evelyn was determined to find anyone or anything that could lead her to this Beema. It might sound crazy, but she couldn’t stand by and let an innocent person suffer or perish. They might not share any connection, but she had made her own choices now. As she scanned the surroundings, her gaze landed on someone who looked utterly worn out. “Has anyone found a way into the forest to get to Beema or at least a plan?”

She’d rocked back onto her heels, which was enough to see the hornet’s arrival. It buzzed through the trees with a flurry of its mechanical wings, for a beast made out of metal, it was surprisingly graceful. That or Akhila’s vision was still swarming. Static hissed as a compliment to the obtuse fluttering. Not all hornets would lock on like this, what had spurred this hornet to follow them? Questions she’d unpack later when she was sound of mind and not staring the creature down. Akhila’s chest heaved quick and shallow. She’d run dry of the courage, or stupidity, that’d driven her down here with him.
It didn’t matter.
Akhila was hauled to her feet, surprisingly, she yielded with no complaint. It was the kid he’d scrambled back up the muddy bank. Held his hand out as a defiant order to stop against the hornet. She was too dazed to bark at him that was ridiculous. The hornet wasn’t likely to obey his attempt at traffic control. That hadn’t been his intent. It became obvious as the stagnant water flushed overhead of them. The putrid smell of algae encased them and Akhila’s lip peeled back. What did it matter if it smelt? The hornet was confounded by the shield of water as it hovered several paces away. Staring. Waiting. Watching. Akhila raised a hand to squeeze his shoulder, an insinuation, keep it up.
Eventually, the hornet lifted in one smooth takeoff and disappeared above the tree-line. Akhila gave the kid a pat on the back. “Well done kid.” His abilities were not limited to that of solid mineral forms. Which was all the more curious. Akhila idly wondered how far he could be pushed. He seemed to have excellent control over his ability, she’d witnessed firsthand Zaid’s overzealous talk for a rather meagre output. “Can you stop it now?” She asked him, because the smell was starting to make her gag, and in part because they had a long trek back. No time to waste like the present.
“What was your name?” Akhila abruptly queried. There wasn’t a chance in hell she could lift him again, it was some small miracle she’d managed to shift her own weight and his. There was one other small problem. Akhila didn’t know where they were. No point in worrying the kid. She continued her interrogation instead. “Have you been practicing with your…ability?”
He was still convinced that she shouldn't anger the half-bug, half-robotic creature. Elliot couldn't believe this was happening right now. He was physically not cut out for this, and if he had gone to the gym like he should have, he would have been in better shape to run. The images of the island showed on screen, and he had only seen parts of the place. However, it flickered the faces of the group from the meeting as well.
'Sincere apologies for this.' what do you mean? he questioned in his mind. Why would she apologize? She had motioned to lift him and he was not prepared. "Woah, woah, how---" whether she had the strength to lift him, he was pretty tall. He wasn't sure what she was trying to do. Sacrifice him? Is this how it ends? He wasn't prepared for what was about to happen.
Everything blurred the second they took off, the world rushing by in streaks of green and brown. He barely had time to gasp before the wind whipped the breath from his lungs, his stomach dropping as if he’d left it miles behind. Trees, mud, all blurred in his vision as he flashed past in less than a blink. Just when he thought he couldn’t hold on any longer, the momentum shifted—as he tumbled down.
His body rolled until he was met with the awakening splash of a small pond. Elliot did not like water, in fact, he was a terrible swimmer, and quite frankly did not have good memories. His initial reaction was to gag, he wanted to vomit everything he had eaten. Whatever it was that happened, had his head spinning. However, the cool sensation of the water is what had him remain still. He wasn't immersed in it, but at the edge of the water, not fully thrown in.
He couldn't explain the discomfort from being covered in water, and mud together. Yet, the feel of the water had him remain still. For two reasons. The first he had explained earlier, he didn't like water. The second, he felt a connection to it.
MOVE!
His thoughts snapped back to see the other woman across the way, followed by the hornet that had followed her earlier. Elliot moved like his life depended on it. He felt hopeless, useless, and afraid. The feelings swirling within, followed by wanting to survive. Wanting to come out of this alive. "You move too!" he said as he crawled, before standing to make a dash for her. Should he have run the other way --sure, but Elliot was not the kind of person to leave someone behind.
The hornet was making it's way, he managed to reach her and pull her to stand up. The hornet was close, and Elliot held his hand out in defense. The last thought in mind was protection. They needed protection. All he could hear was the sound of water flowing like one would hear if they were near a waterfall. Like magic, a swirling wall of water formed around them, rising like a shimmering, liquid barrier. It encased them entirely, a protective shield of fluid motion that pulsed and shifted with every heartbeat.

Tale of the second drawer...
Part of the prequel series to "Are we ever going to talk about this?".
I'll post little snippets of their 'not dating' days in this series. Little events that draw them together and the intimacy they share in plain sight.
--------
Q pokes at the plaster with his undamaged hand, tracing the outlines of what must be an impressive blister underneath. “Owww... With luck, I might end up with a wicked scar. Makes for an interesting conversation starter.”
Bond smiles indulgently at his exaggeration then lobs a half-hearted line at him, “Would you like me to kiss it better?” His calloused thumbs running back and forth lightly over the open palm.
Q can’t help but laugh at that,......
----------------------------------------------------
Agent 006
“Yes I know, our appointment was 2 hours ago. Sorry Q, M had me in his office for 2 more hours than expected,” Trevelyan apologises when he reports to Q.
Q looks up from the textbook he is consulting with and peers over his glasses at him. The text is a mass of hexagonal scribbles and lines that 006 recognises as chemistry symbols. There are handwritten notes in the margins and liberal application of highlighter all over the page.
“Ah 006, no worries. Your kit is waiting for you on the table,” Q gestures to the workbench behind 006 where a brushed aluminium case sits. Inside are what looks like a dozen silver pens.
“Deposit them around the areas of interest and it will detect any wireless enabled equipment within its radius. This will allow us to find the weakest link and likeliest backdoor where we can tunnel in with. As you can imagine, it only has a limited battery life, so you’ll need to be strategic about using them and coordinate with us for the timing—...”
Alec tries to listen carefully to the instructions, but his stomach objects to being ignored any longer and makes its displeasure known - loudly. The meeting with M ate (pun intended) into his lunch hour.
Q pauses going over the instructions. Trevelyan gives him a thin lipped smile hiding his embarrassment.
“...Hungry? There are some snacks in the second drawer.” Q motions to his desk with a tilt of his head.
“Ta!..” 006 all but skips to the desk. There is a selection of protein snacks and Alec rummages through the drawer to find a variety he likes. As he shuffles through the drawer, the other contents piques his interest. He peeks at Q who is still preoccupied with repacking his kit.
006 takes the opportunity to investigate:
a pair of solid gold cufflinks - judging by the weight
aviator sunglasses - non prescription, not Q’s
an Aston Martin car key fob with a separate key attached to it - the key does not correspond to the car, its for a door or a lock.
a neatly folded tie, heavy silk, designer label - not Q’s usual style
Curiouser and curiouser. Finally, an employee ID badge - he flips it over, a very familiar face is printed on the ID. James Bond.
Alec smiles -confirmation-. 006 sees it for what it is. But it is odd that the Quartermaster tolerates such territorial behaviour - unless a) the feeling is mutual or b) he’s not aware of it, which is more likely. He wouldn’t have let Alec rummage through his drawer otherwise. Oh James, you poor smitten sod.
“Anything to your liking 006?” Q catches him smiling.
Alec grabs a random protein snack, rips it open and takes a huge bite of the bar. “Oh…mmm….” he chews around his words, “—thank you.” He holds up the bar in thanks.
When Q turns back around, 006 thinks this is the perfect opportunity to screw with 007... but how? How do you piss off a possessive territorial lion? ...By planting blatant evidence of intrusion of course!
Alec checks himself, his tie-pin - gold and crusted with small diamonds. Much too gaudy for 007’s tastes. It’s the perfect juxtaposition. He unclips it and drops it into the drawer.
When he leaves Q-Branch, he’s feeling particularly wicked. Its ingrained in him, to look for and act on opportunities when it presents itself. The others would expect no less of him. He pulls out his phone to text 003 with his discovery.
Agent 003
Two weeks later, 003 returns from her mission seducing the son of a manufacturing tycoon in South East Asia, with links to human traffickers luring workers into modern slavery that span the region from Philippines to India.
She stops by Q’s desk to return her kit consisting mostly of trackers and hidden video cameras. They all served their purpose but one of them had an issue with the sound quality. She recalls the text 006 sent her weeks earlier so before leaving, she contrives feeling hungry.
“Q, you don’t happen to have something to munch on do you? I’m feeling… peckish.”
Q is pre-occupied, checking over the piece of equipment with a macroscope to understand what went wrong. “Oh, second drawer. Help yourself to whatever.”
Perfect. She goes to his desk to retrieve a snack. She only needs to remove the first packet and she has to stifle a laugh.
She spots 006’s panther shaped Cartier tie pin, next to it is 005’s Tiffany tanzanite and platinum drop earrings along with 002’s Bvlgari gold and onyx signet ring. Finally under all of it is 008’s Hermes silk pocket square.
Shoved further into the back of the drawer are the items that Alec told her about, those that belong to 007. The ID badge pushed right to the back facing down - you’d be hard pressed to notice it if you didn’t know it was there.
She had heard that 007 won’t back from Venezuela till Friday, so she’s just in time to add her calling card. She shifts around the snack packets to burry 007’s things and then drops in a stick of Chanel No5 lipstick in its signature flaming red tube - 007 will not be able to miss that.

Quartermaster
Last 36 hours had been exhausting. Q had altogether probably 3 hours of sleep in that period. And he needs a shower. The cats are alright, he just checked the cameras - Q has an automated feeder set up for emergencies like this.
Q had spent the better part of the time hacking into system after system covering tracks, laying traps, planning infiltration and escape routes; all culminating in last night’s tense Ops trying to save 009 from premature death when his cover was blown by a double crossing informant. It was over now, with 009 safely extracted by their allies and on his way back to England with miraculously minor injuries all things considered.
So yes, his hand eye coordination is shot. His fingers slip on his mug handle and liquid sloshes over the top, splashing over his shirt and onto his desk. Q uses his tie to quickly mop up the spilled tea before it spreads onto the paper schematic open on his desk.
He takes the mess to the pantry sink to cleanup. The wet spot on his shirt sticking uncomfortably to his skin. Its a good thing he’d removed his cardigan earlier. He can hide the stain on his shirt under it.
As he’s attempting to remove the stain and dry his shirt as much as possible he feels his phone vibrating in his pocket. He pulls it out - its a text from Eve:
:: Where are you?? Meeting’s started ::
What meeting? Q tries to recall. He checks his calendar app. Shit! 2:00 pm Joint Executive Oversight meeting. He checks the time. 2:15pm!
He abandons the mug and tie next to the sink. No time to wash it now.
Q rushes back to his office to put on his cardigan. The cardigan doesn’t hide the topmost stain - a tie would do the trick. Also god forbid he walks into the meeting dressed so causally. They would think the young Quartermaster was starting a mutiny.
There must be a spare tie in his desk somewhere - Q thinks as he rummages through his drawers. He’s about to ask Nish to borrow his tie when his hand brushes fabric under the stash of snacks and protein bars. He fishes it out - a tie! Yes! He loops it around his neck and starts to tie it - the knot is uneven, but he has no time to worry about it now.
He grabs his laptop and rushes out the door - informing Nish about the meeting and the mess he left next to the pantry sink. He’ll clean it up later.
In the lift on the way up, as he adjusts the hastily knotted tie - he tries to remember when was it that he purchased an accessory this fancy.
——
After meeting. He tries to get back to being productive to make himself feel better. What an ordeal; he had to face-off with Timothy Hayden (IT-Branch HOD) in the meeting - no surprise there. Normally he’d be fine to hold his own. But today, suffering from sleep depravation and a wardrobe mishap meant that he was uncharacteristically flustered, which Hayden took advantage of.
His stained and slightly damp shirt front was passably hidden behind the cardigan and tie, but it still made him self-conscious. What was more, Tanner and Eve kept looking at him oddly. The navy replacement tie looked dark enough in warm light, but when it caught the harsher fluorescent light, it had a slight iridescence to it that clashed with his mustard cardigan - it clearly wasn’t his style nor his tie.
Q fires up the soldering iron. He plans to finish the circuit board for the prototype controller that will be used in a portable drone. Once he confirms it works, he’ll have the schematics sent to a manufacturer to have it miniaturised. He could at least get this bit done today.
Twenty minutes into the ‘zone’ and he has finished a round of soldering. He pauses to check his work against the overall drawing. It doesn’t look quite right.
What? He flips the drawing around. Argh! He grabs a fistful of his hair in frustration. It’s upside down!
He slams his hands down on the work table. The vibration causes the soldering iron resting on its holder to tip over. The weight of its power cord starts to pull it off the table.
Reflex makes him shoot out his hand to grab the iron. But instead of grabbing the handle he misjudges and grabs the tip instead. The 400’C tip burns his palm instantly.
“Ah!!” Q yelps and jolts back in pain. The pain makes him drop the iron - right into his lap.
He stands hastily to avoid the heated tip - and bangs the back of his head against the top baffle of the fume cabinet as well as upending the stool he was sitting on.
“Fuck!!” The escaped curse is something between a hiss and a yell.
His pained curses and bangs draws his minions to investigate. Nish pokes his head around the corner and asks “You alright sir?”
Nish takes in the toppled chair, the disheveled hair, and the way Q is holding on to his hand and makes the correct deduction. Who hasn’t burned themselves soldering?
“Go to medical boss. I’ll tidy this up for you.”
Q hangs his head in utter defeat and sighs heavily. “I’m done for the day I think. Thanks Nish.”

Agent 007
Bond is back at HQ. Ops had made it clear that he must hand them the USB stick with the time sensitive info he stole as soon as he gets back. They need to link together the web of supply chain involving the cocaine shipment from Venezuela-France-England before the people involved go back into hiding.
So here he is, direct delivery from Heathrow. He had handed the USB stick to R since Q wasn’t around. Then he had gone to the Quartermaster’s desk and the second drawer to retrieve a snack while he waits for Q to return. As jet-lagged as he is, he hasn’t seen the quartermaster for nearly a month and well... he wants more than just the voice to sustain him.
Something on top of the packet grabs his attention. A bright red tube of lipstick. What the...? He shifts the contents around, a gaudy diamond and gold panther tie pin?? And whose bloody pocket square is that???
He checks the lipstick label - Chanel No5… Bloody 003!
He takes stock of the other items again, they -all- look familiar. How do they even know about this drawer? Did Q just let anyone rummage though his desk? Worse, are those snacks not just for him?
And what about his things? A first he can’t find them, then he pulls the drawer all the way out, until the wheels catch on the stoppers. They’re buried under a pile of snacks and shoved all the way to the back. Everything is there, no wait - except the tie.
He slams the drawer shut with enough force to move the desk a few centimetres. Those bastards!
Bond storms out of Q-Branch. None of them better be in the building, especially Trevelyan. This whole thing reeks of his idea.
——
Quartermaster
Medical patched him up and sent him away with a box of hydrogel burn plasters. Dr Chen tells him that they stock it specially for Q-Branch. But that also means she is obligated to report the incident as a work place accident. Great, more paperwork and the irony of having the HOD become a statistic.
Q shuffles morosely back to Q-Branch - will this day end already. He figures he should have a nap before going home. At this rate he is likely to accidentally walk right into the path of a moving bus on the way home.
There is a set of old brown leather Chesterfield sofas, deliberately semi-hidden behind a rack of storage shelves on this floor of Q-Branch. A relic of the 1950s in perfect condition that they found in storage during one of their inventory audits. Q had it brought out to serve as a makeshift lounge, usually used by those working late nights or during pizza parties after CyberWar nights.
He removes his cardigan to use as a blanket and flops onto the sofa.
Hours later, he wakes up and the place is mostly dark except for the safety lighting. Most of his minions have gone home. It’s not uncommon to leave Q here alone when he’s pulling all nighters, but the last person would usually check in on him before they left. Not tonight.
Q indulges in a good stretch and sits up. His head feels better. It doesn’t feel like its swimming or floating anymore. But he is hungry.
He makes way to his desk to collect his things but stops short - startled by the sight of 007 lounging in his chair, feet propped up on the desk, a textbook on Advanced Biofuels open in his hands. He’s not wearing a suit, just a button down shirt and khakis which probably means he just got back from Caracas and hasn’t gone home yet.
“You’re back. What are you doing here?” Q asks softly. Genuine question, what is he doing sitting in a darkened Q-Branch.
“Came to drop off the usb drive. I’ve given it to R since the Quartermaster was temporarily out of commission.”
“Ah. Sorry about that — “ checks his watch and yawns. “That must have been hours ago. What are you still doing here then?”
Bond doesn’t answer. Instead he asks, “Is that my tie?” gestures to the loosened tie around his neck.
“Is it yours? I was wondering about it. I found it in my desk.” Q undos the tie and folds it back neatly before handing it over to Bond. As he does, he notices his own tie now hanging on the shade of his desk worklamp. He reaches for it.
“Leave it. It should dry by Monday.” Bond tells him.
Q opens his mouth to tell him that it needs a wash, but pauses when he catches sight of his Scrabble mug on the table under the light of the worklamp, the white porcelain gleaming pristine - he peeks inside, even the stubborn tea stains are gone. Q blinks in confusion.
Something about the way the two items are arranged prominently on his desk and the feigned nonchalance hiding a pleased look on Bond’s face that makes him wonder.
“Did you.. wash my tie and mug?” Q is having trouble putting together the image of 007 fresh from an infiltration job in Venezuela that involved drug trafficking and a traitorous national guard, then returning to England to do something so mundanely domestic in the pantry sink - by hand no less.
Bond doesn’t answer, then again Q doesn’t expect him to admit it even if he did. He just opens the second desk drawer purposefully and deposits the borrowed tie back in there.
“Are you hungry Q?” Bond asks instead. “Can I tempt you with supper?”
There it is. That odd way that Bond sometimes says ‘Q’ when they are alone. That slight change in tone - softer, less clipped and almost affectionate. He’s beginning to be able to tell Bond’s ‘Qs’ apart.
At the mention of food, Q’s stomach responds with an embarrassing gurgle. “Famished. Something hot with fast service please. I don’t know how much longer I can survive without solid food.”
Bond smiles, pivoting in the chair to put his feet down. He picks up and hands Q his messenger bag - laptop and charger already packed inside, keys and phone in their usual compartments.
Then he switches off the worklamp and picks up an unsealed brown envelope from the desk before ushering Q out of his own office. The package rustles-jingles with the sound of loose items sliding about inside.
“Advanced Biofuels.... How did you like the book?”
“The scribbles in the margins were enlightening,” Bond smiles wryly, “Was it even written in English?”
In the brighter lights of the lift lobby, Q can see his own refection in the lift doors - the washed out tea stains still visible on his shirt and his frightfully mussed hair from the nap. He thinks he should be embarrassed, but can’t bring himself to care. When he looks up, he sees Bond staring him through the reflection.
“Don’t ask—“
“I figured… the mug and tie in the pantry, and the splotch on your desk.”
“Bloody spies.” Q accuses fondly as they step into the lift. He tries to adjust his cardigan so that it hides most of the stains.
“How’s the hand?” Bond asks concerned, his warm fingers reaching out and curling around Q’s that were fussing with his cardigan. He pulls them away from their fussing and spreads them palm up so he can see for himself.
Q pokes at the plaster with his undamaged hand, tracing the outlines of what must be an impressive blister underneath. “Owww... With luck, I might end up with a wicked scar. Makes for an interesting conversation starter.”
Bond smiles indulgently at his exaggeration then lobs a half-hearted line at him, “Would you like me to kiss it better?” His calloused thumb running back and forth lightly over the open palm.
Q can’t help but laugh at that, the flirting is so ingrained into their banter now that both of them recognise the ridiculousness of it. With the others, it is still a competition, a display of one up-manship - but with 007, it has shifted. Like they’ve called a truce, or simply didn’t care about the outcome anymore. Between them, the rules have changed. The fun was no longer in deciding a winner with a knockout blow, but in the simple joy of engaging in comfortable playfulness for as long as possible.
“I don’t know about the science of that; but I will give you the honour of hand feeding an invalid,” Q counters with a line of his own.
At the mention of hand feeding, Bond’s eyes go darker, pupils dilating. He doesn’t say anything, but doesn’t release Q’s hand until the lift dings on their floor which was (un)fortunately just a moment after.
On their way out to Bond’s car they stop at a security desk. Bond tips out the contents of the envelope onto her desk and leaves the empty envelope next to the items. The night guard’s eyes grow wide at the collection of expensive trinkets.
“Would you mind putting these in the Lost and Found please? Their owners are probably anxious to have them back. Thank you.” He walks back to a waiting Q with a smug smile.

@tejvirani and Darcy get stuck in a tunnel with the megahornet. surprises and secrets are revealed and a megahornet robot dying might also happen
“That… thing.”
They paused in running to slip into a very narrow offshoot of the cave system. Moments before, they were chased down another underground tunnel. Wings in a buzz so violently loud it stirred up loose rocks, dirt, and sand into a formidable cloud. The dust was illuminated from behind as the blinding lights of hundreds of monitors pursued them. All played the same stream of hornets in their great dig back at the Medicentre.
“I saw it, Darcy. That’s what I saw when I was stung.” A behemoth mechanical hornet. Rather than a dragon guarding a treasure, this beast lounged in its own electrical waste. Darcy and Tej discovered it tucked into a cavern out in the wilderness. As stealth as they moved, somehow the damn hulking robotic insect felt their presence. And followed.
Tej shook his head and whispered. “This has got to be the worst idea yet.” Maybe he contributed to the idea, but decided to overlook his involvement. "Should've never come out here."
------------
Was there a chance they could lose the unthinkably giant hornet that's been chasing them in the caverns? Probably very minimal, but that didn't mean they wouldn't try. The longer they could evade it, the longer they had to figure out what the hell to do. "You saw-- You saw this?!" she whisperred as she was trying to hold back coughing from all the dust around them. "Great, just great. It is so powerful, it somehow decided to taunt us through you even before it showed up." Was that the case? No, absolutely not, but Darcy didn't really care, she had to get her stress out of herself somehow.
"But hey, look at it this way - if we get out of it, we can get out of anything, right?" she was trying to be light, trying to be positive. If they could just get out of these damn tunnels.... Granted, they didn't even know where they were going, they were just trying to get away, but eventually they had to get out to some part of the beach.
"Did you see anything in that memory that could be useful for us? Even the smallest thing could help." They've already talked about the memory when he got stung, but then they didn't think they'd be face to face with this giant hornet, maybe, just maybe Tej didn't mention something.
------------
“I saw Qwan trying to get away. He was crying, dragging himself through mud.” Injured already, before the final fatal wound that needed no description. “All those tv heads? They recorded everything that happened to him. The last thing Qwan saw was this damn giant hornet-thing.”
Tej thought the potency of the sting was a creative fever dream. A trauma-induced monstrosity of his own imagination (consumerism, privacy, celebrity— a representation of any number of hot topic ideas, which back home would have been poured into a project).
No, this hunk of metal wasn't another piece to display in a gallery. “Taunting us? You saying it knew we'd come back."
Darcy tried to give their situation an optimistic spin. Tej stayed silent. The dust had thinned but not settled. The ground beneath them began to rumble. He moved further down the narrow corridor in the caves. While Tej previously shared some of the unwelcome vision, it was through gritted teeth and an immense amount of pain.
What other details hid in the vision? “It was raining. I think. The mud he crawled through was covered with old electrical parts, all scattered about. Like back where we found the hornet?”
As they quickened their pace, his hand brushed the stone around them. “Darce, you notice the rocks are all wet down here?” It had been fairly dry in the caves initially. Tej slowed to shine a light above them. The rock overheard looked darker, and dripped with water. The rain in the vision. “Fucking hell. We might be under beach.”
------------
Seeing any of these robot hornets before dying was already terrifying and horrific, seeing this giant, extreme one as one of your last memories was even worse. But even now, knowing that it existed, Tej's recounting didn't provide any additional details that could help them kill it. Which made sense, why would it give any kind of weakness away through memories itself - but still, Darcy had to try and ask.
"Maybe not that we'd be back, but-- this giant one is their leaders, right? Collects all of the recordings from the small ones. And the small ones stung several of us, giving us memories of other people fighting and dying because of them. It feels-- fuck, it feels very pointed and almost like a taunt. 'See, I am stronger, this is what awaits you all', or something along those lines." Maybe she put too much individuality and personality to the hornets.
She moved, quickening her pace too while also trying to step as quietly as possible - it didn't help before, but gotta keep trying. She frowned when Tej pointed out the stones were wet, running her fingers along the rock wall next to her too. "Fuck, that--" her first instinct was that they'd be flooded in matter of seconds, but no, the caverns were stern, showing no signs of sinking in and flooding them."
Since none of this is flooded, it means at some point it has to circle back and lead us out onto proper ground." Or it was a dead end that they'd eventually reach and then the hornet would catch up to them and they'd end like Qwan and Jim. But she was not going to voice that. "If we can make it there fast enough, maybe we can close it and then figure out how to flood these tunnels. That might help get rid of that thing behind us." They'd need to be extremely fast on plenty of steps for that, though.
------------
Unfortunately, what Tej saw of Qwan’s demise offered little in the way of help. Except a starting point: the caves. “Think the big one has become self-aware? We're not longer dealing with someone controlling all this. It's that big fucker now doing it all.” Shit, look at where they were. Look at how they got there. The island already lived in a sci-fi realm of its own, didn’t it?
He exhaled with a smile. “The memories should’ve had the opposite effect. Kept our asses out of here.” Maybe Darcy was right about the taunt.
The indication of being deep underground— under the beach, under the water even —spooked her. "You can use the shadows to get out of here." Tej? Not so much. And her idea was one of the few options they had. “As long as we stick to these smaller tunnels. It can’t fit in here, yeah? It’s too big to get down these narrow ones.” Impossible to squeeze through the tight corridors they navigated, thankfully. “Alright, let’s go.”
They cautiously controlled their flashlights and moved as quick as possible. Through a small crevice in the wall, he caught a glimpse of the hornet. The thing was in a larger offshoot of the tunnels and moved at a snail's pace. Many of the heads could be seen, and Tej came to a stop. He peered through the hole in the wall. "Fucking hell," he whispered to Darcy. "I... I recognize something on one of those screens."
------------
"Yeah, it feels like it. With all of its screens showing all of us, it feels like it was collecting information and then now that it has enough, it's taken over and jumped into action." For what was still unclear, but Darcy was kind of happy to not know, as long as they could get rid of it. "We really should have. And yet, here we are," she gave a small smile back.
She let out a small snort at his suggestion. "Yeah, sure, and leave you all alone here? What a great suggestion, Tej, surely exactly what I am doing right now..." Her voice was thick with sarcasm and she gave him an unamused face. She was not leaving him behind. So instead she focused on the plan. "Yeah, let's go."
They didn't get too far ahead, though, before Tej noticed something. "What do you mean you recognize something? Is it the medicenter with the digging?" It would only make sense, right? It didn't even occur to Darcy that it would be anything else. "Can I see?" she asked and once she got a peek, she frowned, trying to find the medicenter, but came back empty. Instead, she found something that just felt... so familiar. But it couldn't have been. It was a wall art with such familiar strokes, such familiar design... And maybe Darcy could have convinced herself that it wasn't what her mind immediately jumped to unless then the scene on the screen panned out and it showed the artist making the art - first from the back and then it zoomed in on him as he looked around, checking to make sure he wasn't getting caught.
His face in full front.
Darcy stumbled back, shaking her head from the surprise. "We-- we need to get away. Need to-- need to destroy that thing. That--" How. That was impossible, that had to all be just-- fake scenes from the simulation, right? They just have to be.
------------
Not doubting "what you’re saying.” Darcy certainly was onto something. “I also don’t think we’re here randomly. Whoever is behind this, don’t they already have information on us to begin with? Designing robotic wasps, or whatever those things are, to gather more information, well. Seems a bit overkill. Bit dramatic.” Unnecessary. But didn’t keep Tej from wondering himself, what the hell those things were about. "Maybe this is some kind of test." To see who'd be so idiotic to hunt for the grand dame hornet? So be it.
Speaking of dramatic, his eyes rolled painfully obvious. “It wasn’t a suggestion. I’m pointing it out— bickering is just your thing isn’t it? We should try actually holding a conversation with it.” Or was it Tej who enjoyed being argumentative? He stepped aside to let Darcy peek through the wall and see the ponderous robotic queen hornet. “You see him, the artist?” As he said it, Tej studied the waves and loops in Darcy’s curly hair, his words whispered low and slow. “I know him. He’s brilliant at what he does.”
Darcy’s reaction felt strange (even for her). He agreed they needed to destroy this hulking hunk of computer chips and monitor screens. They continued to move through the thinner tunnels. With some distance between them and the hornet, he spoke again. “Benji.” Tej finally said. “His name is Benji.” A short pause. “You saw something else on those screens? Because you’re acting weird.”
Tej stretched the beam of Darcy’s flashlight in a broader wash, to shine further than it typically would. They kept walking, and Tej lost track of time. How many hours were they down there? Dampness grew in the tunnels until they were eventually wading through thigh high water. Just as he wondered if they should turn back… “I see something up ahead.”
He paused at the opening of a the largest space he'd ever seen. "Darce-- we're not in the caves anymore."
The chamber glowed orange from an enormous pit where lava boiled, churned, and bubbled. Tej's mouth fell open in awe. "Fuck me. We gotta be near the volcano now." He looked at Darcy. "You thinking what I am?"
------------
Maybe this is some kind of test. There was a moment of silence and then Darcy couldn't help but exclaim, "Thank you! I've been saying it since-- I don't know, all of this began. Absolutely agree." And then at his eyeroll and pointing out their bickering, she couldn't help but flash a small smile at him. "You just make it too easy, you know?" It was kind of fun, overall. It was just their way, it seemed, so far.
(She did intentionally not think about the last person she constantly bickered with, that was completely different and completely irrelevant.)
All of it was forgotten, though, when she saw Benji. It made no sense, it shouldn't have happened, it shouldn't have shaken her, it shouldn't have mattered - none of it mattered, right? And yet, what if he was also in the simulation and he'd show up later. What if true reality and simulation blended? Or even if they didn't know each other in the real world, they were siblings in the simulation, that was not something to overlook, she couldn't just erase it.
And Tej knew him. Tej knew Benji. And he knew Benji by the name Benji, not-- whatever he went by in the end. She didn't actually know.
She snapped her head up at Kaz, but no words actually came out of her mouth, not in that moment. She just couldn't say it. So she just kept going and remained quiet, lost in her thought, her heart beating in her throat. She completely forgot about the hornet, she completely forgot about the tunnels and where they were most likely, all she could think about was that *Tej knew Benji."
"I saw him too. The artist. Benji. He was my brothe--"
But before she could finished, they reached a point where they finally got to the end of the tunnels and saw the lava pit and that, that finally snapped her out of her stupid. "Oh I am definitely thinking that. I can go, taunt the thing, be the bait." She looked around - the tunnel was lit by the lava itself, but most of it was covered in shadows of different depths and sizes. "Step away the last moment to somewhere saver. And you can shove it into the lava?"
They didn't really have that much time to plan, though, because they could hear the buzzing get louder and louder coming from a different tunnel than what they arrived in. "Just don't fall into it yourself, too, okay?" she said and then she jump into action - something she never really thought she would do and ran towards the giant mega hornet that stumbled out of the tight cavern space it was in. "HEY, YOU BIG ASS GIANT MONSTER, COME GET ME IF YOU CAN! THAT'S THE GOAL, RIGHT? COME STING ME, I BET YOU CAN'T EVEN DO THAT." Whether yelling all of that was stupid of part of a good plan, she'd learn soon enough.
------------
The thank you caught Tej off guard. A rare moment where they landed together. A slow, unbelieving blink, and then a lifeless, “Uh. Ok.” And Darcy’s smile was both warm and infuriating. His head tipped to the side, his own small aggravated gesture. But there wasn’t anything to really say in return.
Benji on the hornet’s screens— and Darcy’s reaction —was much more interesting. For a few seconds Tej slowed. “Wait a fucking minute. You know Benji??” A beat, his feet suddenly desperate to catch up to Darcy. “I know Benji!” No. Fuck, no way. Couldn’t be, not Darcy.
Running while shouting to hash out this connection wasn’t the best idea. The turbulent spit and pop of a wide pit of hot lava wiped the idea of Benji right out of Tej’s mind.
The hum of those man-made wings reverberated down the tunnel. Somehow the thing honed in on them, found a shortcut and squeezed through another tunnel to reach the two. As usual, Darcy willingly offered to do the most inane thing. But there were few options. "Listen, listen! I'll try to cover the lava pit with the dark." Don't bother to ask him how. "So lead it here. I'll be careful." Or. Yeah. Hopefully. "You too. As soon as you see it, run back over here to me, okay?"
Of course, Darcy threw herself headlong into their flimsy plan. She yelled, she taunted. Tej felt the flush of his new favorite fever, then pulled and stretched the darkness around the lava.
He could barely keep the amusement off his face as Darcy shouted out. "That's it, Darce! Hurt their feelings!" Not a criticism, more to fire her up even more.
The hornet wobbled out in front of Darcy. Wings barely lifted its feet off the ground. The sprouting heads casted even more shadows and light into the cave. The many screens featured color bars. Tej in the distance. Or Darcy standing there.
One 'face' extended on an antennae-neck to lower down and meet Darcy eye to eye. On that screen, Benji appeared again, crystal clear for her to see...
------------
I know Benji. I know Benji. I know Benji. The words echoed in Darcy's head over and over again as they quickly put a makeshift plan together. She couldn't decide if her heart was beating out of her chest cause of the giant mega hornet approaching them or the newly earthed knowedge that Tej knew her brother. Well, her brother in the simulation, in a whole different life before. It shouldn't matter.
It really really shouldn't. And yet...
And yet, even as she approached the monstrosity in robot form, barely hovering, looming, all imposing and extremely fucking terrifying. But if all the mysteries around the island and wanting to see the people's faces when they realized she was right wasn't enough, figuring out how Tej knew Benji was enough reason to get rid of this thing once and for all.
Almost as if it knew what to taunt Darcy with, as she stopped in front of it, Benji appeared on one of the screens and she froze again for a second. She just wanted to stand there and watch the screen. Reach into it and drag him out of it. But she was more prepared this time around and after a few moments, she crouched down and grabbed a big rock by her feet, and eyes still locked onto the screen and her brother, and hit the screen as hard as she possibly could.
The screen cracked with a loud crack and the hornet's buzzing turned into a screen for a moment, it shifted, the broken screen pulling back and its sting pushing forward. But Darcy was already moving away from it - this time with more intent, coming back slowly towards the big pit. "That's all you can do? Come and sting me, I know that's what you wanted. That's the goal, right? If you don't get me, you are not getting out of here alive." She couldn't see Tej from the corner of her eyes, but she was certain he was somewhere behind her, getting it done. Now she just hoped all of this would work.
------------
It had to be the most tense moment yet— to watch Darcy stare down one of the hundreds of tv ‘eyes’ that seemed to have chosen various memories from those around the island. Benji’s face appeared again, and for a second Tej thought he’d lost her. (Confusion too on his part. Benji was his connection, despite the image not fitting to any exact memory). "Darcy!" But couldn’t do more than hold his breath. Because Tej did his best to grab hold of the dark around them and blanket the lava pit. This giant hornet trap that had no choice but to work.
The trap was disguised by lightless-ness. Visually, his power camouflaged the spot to be another inky unlight corner underground, similar to the corridors that the hornet took to find them.
He whistled from where he stood in the blackness, to let her know where he was waiting to keep her from falling in too. Come on Darcy, he thought. Run like hell. And Tej really hoped she could.
Tej's sharp whistle and Darcy's shouting captured the hornet's attention. All screens synced in time to a flashing image of Darcy's angry face. Lacking full room to outstetch its wings, the hornet resorted to quickly timed steps, faster than expected for such an unwieldy piece of machinery. Tej took a few steps closer in anticipation of reaching out to grab Darcy.
------------
If you asked Darcy, she had the easy job. All she had to do was get the hornet's attention, which really wasn't that hard, especially considering it almost seemed happy to be torturing her with images of Benji (if a gigantic robot hornet with a bunch of screens could even be happy). Get its attention and then lure it into the darkness that the small portion of lava pit was turned into by Tej.
Get into the darkness and then get out before you get burned by lava. No biggie.
It didn't even occur to her that Tej wouldn't be able to pull of the darkness above the lava pit - after she's seen what he was capable with light in the caves not too long ago when he got stung, there was no doubt in her that he'd be able to pull it off and keep the darkness there, so she didn't even look back over her shoulders, she just kept backing away from the hornet, yelling at it and calling it names, intentionally trying to ignore certain screens on the hornet - she did not want to keep looking at Benji.
Once she reached the darkness, she could feel it, even though she stopped right before it. It was calling to her, singing to her to step in and then step out somewhere else, but Tej was somewhere near, she heard his whistle and she wasn't leaving him behind in case this did not work as they intended it. "Come on, you big ugly giant robot! You won't find me in the darkness anyway!" she yelled while reaching behind her, looking for some kind of connection and finding Tej's hands in the process and that was enough for her to finally spin around, quick and fast and jump - towards Tej, into the darkness. As long as Tej would keep it up, they should be good.
------------
Tej's darkness visibly shivered, a living obsidian shimmer. Whether in response to Darcy's challenge to the hornet or to entice it, he wasn’t sure. Control wasn’t exactly easy and at times he felt as though he’d glitch out like those broken screens, but Darcy kept the thing too distracted to notice.
The mecha-hornet’s wings squashed closer to its body and the upper blades buzzed ruts into the confining rock above. Benji’s smashed screen blinked out, but others began to layer the image over and over with an awareness of Darcy’s annoyance. Stretching the image into unrecognizable shapes, inverting the colors, breaking the picture into separate corners of all the screens.
Which must’ve been a warning shot fired because the hornet then lurched towards Darcy. And towards the hidden lava.
Tej clutched Darcy’s hand to give her guidance as they leapt back into through the dark, to a safe area on the sidelines of the pit.
The hornet charged through, like an actor stepping past a black curtain and onto the stage. Except the mark was the unbearable heat and blinding glow of fatal lava. Tej allowed the ‘curtain’ to dissipate like a wisp of black smoke in the wind. The hornet’s legs attempted to skid to a halt but there was no room to stop. A horrid electrical hiss echoed out as it plunged into the magma.
The mega hornet sank quickly with one final anticlimactic burp of thousand degree liquid heat.
It took a minute to realize how tightly he held Darcy's hand before it snapped open. "Fuck." A beat. "Fucking fuck, that was unbelievable." Another moment. "Benji's photo. That's what got to you, isn't it? Why?"
------------
Darcy just held onto Tej and watched as the hornet sank into the lava, suddenly feeling the heat of the pool even from the distance they were in. It was... it should have felt satisfying to watch it burn, watch it get destroyed, unable to hurt or taunt them anymore (unable to give her a glimpse of Benji now!!), but it all was just too much for Darcy to truly enjoy it. The shock of everything, that she's pushed away otherwise she would have been useless to Tej in all the way, even possibly a hindrance, in defeating the hornet, it came back with a swing and settled onto her.
She barely even heard Tej's first words, only really realized they needed to talk when he mentioned Benji's name, talking like it was such a surprise that she knew him, when it was supposed to be the other way around. Supposed to be. Unless Tej knew him from after. But then how could he know Benji by his name...
Her head hurt and Darcy just walked over and slumped down next to a wall, her back against the rocks and just looked at Tej for a long while, before she finally managed to speak, "He was my brother. In there, in the simulation. Before... in another lifetime, really. It shouldn't... it shouldn't matter. It shouldn't have stumped me like that, but he-- how did you know him? He's never mentioned you, as far as I can remember."
------------
Like Darcy, the hornet’s ‘demise’ carried a minor sting. Delayed reaction, perhaps, as that was how Tej operated. Should’ve been more satisfying. The haze might lift after they found their way out from under a literal volcano.
And to see the face of a third party, someone he once felt something deeper for than the otherwise shallow interactions of peers in the art world… it almost spooked him to see his friend's face grin at them, as Darcy and Tej were trapped in this Dalí-esque canvas of a world.
After he determined the giant hornet had been reduced to molten metal in the magma, he lowered down across from Darcy, further from the furnace-like heat blazing against their skin. The silence between them as the bright light in the dark.
“Brother,” he murmured. What in the fuck did she keep talking about, the simulation? For real? He huffed with the soft sound of offense, although he didn’t think she meant it that way, “Hey babe, he's never mentioned a sister either.”
How did Tej know him? He smiled at the reminiscence, the way they’d met. “Benji was a fellow artist. But we met in a record shop. Not in some fancy gallery." Eyes dipped down for a moment with a secret smile at the corner of his mouth. "Tried to act like a big shot in New York, Benji did. Kind of were suspicious of each other at first, but it all changed quick.”
Tej studied Darcy’s features for those landmarks blood siblings share. A glint in the eye, arch of a brow. Not the same smile, but a similar laugh. “Benji was real. The realest. Funny, since his life was performance art.” Tej wiped sweat from the back of his neck with a squint. "I don't like talking about this down here. Let's find our way back, yeah?"
------------
He never mentioned her. Of course he didn't, Darcy almost snapped back, it's not like she mentioned him. They were not supposed to talk about each other, they were not siblings anymore, essentially, in that situation. And still, part of it hurt. But she pushed it aside - it was another lifetime, another world, mostly in their heads.
She really should have not taken this so close to him. It's what she's been telling people herself, right? why couldn't her heart just listen to her own, logical reasonings, damn it.
"He kept up his art, that's-- that's good. Even though I don't think I've ever seen him perform in his life, he's always been-- too shy for that. Guess times changed." When your sister blew up your entire life, things tended to change. Another thought Darcy pushed away.
Tej was right, though, they should get moving. And yet, Darcy couldn't really get herself to move. "Yeah, that's a good idea, you go ahead, I think I need-- I think I need a few more moments to gather myself. I'll follow along." They can talk about this later, once she actually collected herself. "You were great, by the way," she added, though, before he would leave. "The way you controlled the darkness - it's impressive as fuck, best person to get rid of that giant hornet for sure."
FINISHED.

The Danger of Seeking Information
Academy City: The Last City of Humanity.
It was a phrase that took some getting used to, yet the weight of such was a heavy thing to imagine. When she first heard the news, Uiharu Kazari couldn’t believe what was being said. She refused to believe that the world had been destroyed by an unknown cause, and that her parents were caught in such destruction.
It was only until much time passed and the various drone footage of what should have been Tokyo had been shown, that she was simply forced to accept the reality. There were no words for it, only tears.
But she saw the resolve of many in the city, regardless of their levels or walks of life, rallying around a certain woman who was doing everything in her power to make sure the city thrived and helped deal with the threats that the esper militia organization known as ZERO posed.
Uiharu had seen the effect she had on many, including her partner and friend, Shirai Kuroko, who seemed more motivated than ever to carry out her duties as a member of Judgement. Whether it was because of the obvious fact that the world ended or her worry for a certain #3, was unknown, but Shirai had taken that woman’s words to heart.
The woman was known as Violent Violet.
When Uiharu first heard the name, she was intrigued in that in itself, but the more the woman was active in the city’s affairs, her curiosity grew.
She looked through Judgement and Anti-Skill’s database to find any information about her, only to draw a blank. There was surprisingly little to know info on her whatsoever. What she knew of her was what had been revealed publically, that she worked for the Board Chairman and had been helping with the city’s affairs for some months now.
Then there was the matter of her powers. From what Uiharu could tell, Violet was not an Academy City Esper, having monstrous strength that seemed to rival the #1′s. The clearest examble was how she was able to do things like take down an entire force of ZERO radicals, to holding up an entire building so others could escape.
There was very few people in the city that she was aware of that could pull of such feats, and the fact that she didn’t seem like she was an esper produced by the city made her think that she was a Gemstone.
But even then, something about her seemed different, suggesting that she was not a Gemstone or anything of the wort at all, but something different altogether. Like the woman in black who had once impaled Uiharu with her hand alone.
And while Violet had caught her interest, perhaps the most striking thing that became the source of her curiosity was the mysterious tower that was constructed months ago.
The Tower of Chaldeas.
It was a structure that had seemingly risen up from the ground one day, without any explanation of description of its purpose being there. It was so random, yet the thing stood taller than every other building in the city. Its appearance was similar to the Endymion Space Elevator that had been there one year ago, yet the tower’s presence was alien in a way that couldn't be described with human words or comprehension.
Uiharu wanted to find out just what was with that place, why it was there and what purpose it served. She dug further, hacking into the Board of Directors’ database, trying to find anything that related to the tower’s existence, and if it had anything to do with Violet’s sudden presence.
It had just been then that she realized how similar the two’s existences were. Both had suddenly appeared out of seemingly nowhere and became integral parts to Academy City. Both had rumors surrounding them for a while, and if the timeline in her head was correct, both had seemingly appeared around the same time.
There was a possibility that they may have been completely unrelated to one another, but then again, they could be connected.
Sitting at her desk in the Judgement Branch Office 177, Uiharu continued typing away on her laptop, looking through a long list of files in the database, and it was only after a while that she found a particularly curious file.
“C.S.C 002...?”
The file had an image of the Tower of Chaldeas, which she was looking for. There was a great nervousness as she hovered the courser over the file, clicking it.
When it opened, she was given more closer images of the tower and some details written below that could clue her in on the structure’s purpose.
“...As per the agreement of Multi-Universe Peacekeeping treaty, Academy City is to have one facility dedicated to the C.S.C, serving as a secondary headquarters for designated personnel and to maintain a protective displacement boundary field around the city in the event of an X-K Class End of the World Scenario. Access to this facility is limited to C.S.C Personnel with Level 7 clearance, and unauthorized access will be dealt with severely including termination.”
Uiharu felt a chill as she read the file description. There was a lot about it that she didn’t understand. End of the World Scenario? Secondary Headquarters? What was this about? Did Academy City, or this third party know about the end of the world before it happened and created this facility to protect the city? Uiharu did not get it, but she guessed that tower was the very reason why Academy City wasn’t blown off the map.
But the threat of termination was what chilled her. It was a statement, to anyone that read this that they would be dealt with if they looked in too deeply.
She started to wonder if she was in danger for reading this very file. She did hack into the Board of Director’s database after all.
But before she could do anything, multiple windows suddenly opened up on her laptop’s screen, each of them taking up space and no matter how much she tried to close them out, more of them kept appearing.
“H-Huh?! What’s going on?! W-What is this?”
The windows contained a very disturbing image of the same picture. The image was a silhouette of a strange person... could it even be called one? It had multiple horns on its head, seven circles that looked like eyes on its chest, had what looked like a tail, or tendrils around it, its lower body wrapped in what seemed to be chains, sharp white teeth that formed a grin on its otherwise featureless face, and a crown that seemed to hover atop the figure’s head.
Strange audio that sounded like distorted laughter came from the laptops speakers as more windows popped up. It had then came a point where the computer had been completely destroyed. The screen shut itself off and smoke seemed to come from the device as she tried to turn it back on.
Uiharu had heard of a Virus that had been only talked about in fourm boards where looking into certain files on the internet would allow such a virus to infect software and utterly destroy their systems, making the device too far gone.
This was the Scarlet King Computer Virus.
It was developed by an unknown party, and if weaponized, could be used to take down entire grids and networks across the world. Uiharu had gotten a small taste of that virus’s capability, with her laptop no longer functioning. It was a Judgement issued laptop, so if the time came, she could request for a new one, but this was a concerning development.
What were they hiding to warrant such a hostile cyber response? with the virus being sent her way, it was obvious that they knew she had accessed their files....
....And if what they were saying about unauthorized access being dealt with severely was true, what did that mean for Uiharu right now?
She suddenly dealt as if her life was in danger.
“T..This is bad isn’t it?”

This was the world that Akhila new intimately. One with scalpels, hammers, and occasionally saws. “Excellent, that’s the spirit.” She encouraged him, pleased to see his earlier refusal had waned. Whilst some might argue refusal was a sane decision, such rationals didn’t live up under the scrutiny of Akhila. They were needed, therefore they would be supplicant to that need.
Usually... she was entrusting nervous residents, not chefs.
“Here. I want you to cut here with this.” Akhila handed him a scalpel befitting of cutting through the meat on a man’s thigh. “Cut approximately two cms.” Akhila held up her fingers to demonstrate the required depth. “Then once the pressure has been relieved we can work to reset his bones.” She hoped there was some strength in those wiry limbs of his. This was her home, this was the safe haven she’d craved with time stripped of any rational sense. But she was an observing party. It was Zaid who would be enjoying all the fun.
Akhila held tip of the suction device to the aforementioned site on Johnny’s thigh. “There just a little of his fascia. Perfect right, now for the hard work.” The little clear plastic tube sucked up a generous portion of blood.
“That's released, now we’re going to create space in the femur…Johnny’s thigh bone to insert a rod.” Well, Zaid was going to create said space. Akhila stared at him from underneath her glasses as if she could gauge potential for fainting from the white’s of his eyes. Chefs don’t faint. Right, but Akhila hadn’t ever had a chef for a resident before.
Akhila spared Johnny’s obs a brief glance. Another irritation of being a team of one and a half (he only counted as half given his status as contributor of steady hands only), there was no-one to confirm back on. To bark at for status reports.
It was almost lonely.
“Right.” Akhila squeezed the button on the drill it buzzed into action. “Press it like this and it moves not too dissimilar to a drill from B&Q.”
"Chefs don't faint," Zaid huffed at the perceived insult, whatever he thought Akhila was insinuating about his profession. He drew himself up, proud and haughty - one could say, as proud as a surgeon, for considerably less justification. Surgeons saved lives; Zaid could argue that a chef's food could save people's souls.
Still, his bravado wilted slightly as he realized - with considerable dread - what Akhila wanted from him. She wouldn't explain her strange blurriness, apart from it being her curse. Zaid gently pressed a hand to his chest. He wasn't feeling nauseated, his excess of...inner destructive snot recently expended on hornets. He could hear Akhila telling him what needed to be done - cut into Johnny's thigh, release pressure. Simple procedure but dire consequences.
Zaid exhaled and reached out boldly, to grip Akhila's shoulders. Still her buzzy body for just a moment, force both of them to look each other in the eyes as he stated, "I'll do this. I'll do everything you tell me. And Johnny dies, it's on you. Not me."
He let go, then got into action. Or rather, just followed Akhila's lead to get ready. He politely turned away from Akhila when they changed into clean scrubs, although he had to admit there was something incredibly thrilling about all of this. Heated and thrilling, like something out of a primetime soapy drama.
The vigourous washing almost a comfort to Zaid, used to proper hygiene in his kitchen. Gloves were normal after Covid; the gown...like an apron, why not. Sure.
Johnny on the operating table, the big lights turned on. Buzzing of scrabbling hornets, and people shouting from outside; but Zaid could easily ignore it. Hubbub in the restaurant was normal, focus came from within.
"Right. Johnny's a leg of lamb," he proclaimed, using a pair of scissors to cut the trousers off Johnny's leg, elbow the cloth aside to expose the injury. It was ghastly, and Zaid visibly winced, but masked his expression quickly.
"I haven't done a proper full animal butchery in months. Where am I supposed to cut, love?"

Zaid, Lokni and Akhila attempt to save the medicentre from hornets.
They had come. Not for her especially, Akhila was not so foolishly self-important to mistake the attack as a personal one. She raced against the beat of her own terror, the flutter of mechanical wings a lewd suggestion to the hysteria she’d been afflicted with. The swarm loomed high above the medicentre as if in contemplation of a strike, her saving grace for having not been home that morning. Akhila skidded to a stop, she still hadn’t quite mastered the art of finishing a bolt with grace. The hornets ceased their truce and one by one, they swan-dived in terrifying sync. “Shit.” Akhila was temporarily disarmed by the horror of the robotic beasts decimating the few windows cemented into the facade.
She spun, and observed in fresh horror that she wasn’t alone. “Lokni!” Akhila barked, but with some immediacy was distracted from the question of his presence to duck. One of the hornets had broken free of its ranks. It landed ten paces between them both, static crackled and a picture momentarily formed on the monitor. It was Zaid – sprinting, the picture fizzled with a blur of black. Akhila stared, her gaze shifting and her lips curling back in horror. “Zaid?” Were the beasts possessed? Seemingly, anything was possible now. The flood gates of sensibility had been broken and Akhila was a blank slate. “Lokni…walk slowly towards me.” Please, she wanted to beg.
–
Hearing his name being called, Lokni straightened to attention, wondering just what in the deep fried hell was goin' on. He had just been milling about the medcenter, Akhila having told him that he needed to be monitored for a while longer. He wasn't about to argue with a medical expert, and if he was being honest with himself, being near her brought him a sense of comfort and security. However, hearing the urgency in Akhila's voice, Lokni immediately went into a high alert mode.
Cautiously, he walked towards her, gaze fixed on the strange insectoid machine that had landed near them, a picture of- was that Zaid? forming in between the flashes of static. To his dismay, his movement agitated the mechanical monstrosity and it's wings whirred to life in a headache inducing, high-frequency buzz. It darted towards Akhila, the imagine of Zaid vanishing. Desperation kicked in as the mechanical wasp aimed its barbed stinger in Akhila's direction, targeting her. Taking a great leap, Lokni dove, tackling Akhila out of the way. They hit the ground hard and rolled to a stop, dirt hanging in the air like clouds. The wasp missed, imbedding itself into the concrete wall where it struggled to free itself, its stinger grating loudly- metal against concrete. "We need to get inside, now!" Lokni shouted, finally finding his voice while roughly getting his feet. Hastily he offered a hand to Akhila, his head snapping back and forth between the new swarm of wasps that were enclosing on them. Who would act first?
–
In truth Zaid was more concerned with saving his own skin, than anyone else's. He was running in a sheer (if silent) panic, towards the medicentre. It seemed like the most sturdy building of them all, with the thick concrete walls. He'd go straight to that fucked-up basement and hide, and wait this out. That was the plan.
"Oh bloody hell," he groaned, when he realized he wasn't alone. Akhila, sure - but Zaid figured she'd be cowering inside in her lair. Why was she outside, dammit? She needed walks or something? And then there was Lokni, who Zaid just assumed was a brave, helpful young man in times of trouble. Certainly not an ounce of cowardice in him.
The hornets were already at the medicentre, but their attention was on the pair. Zaid skidded to a stop. "Szz szz szz!" He buzz-hissed at Lokni and Akhila a few paces away. "Just. Just stay still. Don't look at their TV heads! Just look at the ground and stay the fuck still." Zaid stood where he was, barely breathing. Waiting.
The hornets on the ground chittered with their wings, their TV faces flickering shots of the Medicentre. Shots of people walking around it, with construction hats on, pointing and talking...then static. And then the hornets flew up to the roof, and resumed digging at the facade.
Once the hornet's attention was off them, Zaid asked shakily. "You two alright? Fucking hell. What'd you do to piss them off? Akhila?" It had to be Akhila who did it. Certainly not Lokni.
–
Patently Akhila ignored the Zaid-robo-hornet which seemed an apt response to anything with his face plastered on it. Everything unravelled from there with Lokni running at her. Akhila blinked, but had no time to respond as they tumbled down together, dust and dirt kicking up. The hornet he’d saved her from had lodged itself in the building and was now whirring desperately to free itself. She took Lokni’s hand to stand, still out of sorts, and found the man of the hour had materialised himself.
Akhila didn’t let go of Lokni’s hand. Could she run with him? Or would she dislocate his shoulder in the process? Small price to pay for safety. The hornets drew in and whilst the git shouted not to look Akhila couldn’t help but to. Their feeds had switched in sync. A glimpse into a bygone past? Impossible wings fluttered and together, the hornets reappraised themselves. Akhila watched with disappointment as they resumed to tearing what they could from the building. Finally, Akhila let him go with a squeeze to his shoulder. More for her own sake than his.
She knocked her head back as the assault began again, but this time from Zaid. “Nothing. I was just––” Akhila snapped, she dragged her bottom lip between her teeth. Smoothed out her shirt. Then, resumed with her voice pitched calmer. “I went to fetch tea from the warehouse this morning.” With no tea to show for it. “Anyhow, we have bigger problems.” Akhila gestured at the fluttering of metallic hornet legs cleaving what they could from concrete.
The delirium had finally come for her. “Anyone got a rather large fly swat? No?” Akhila exhaled noisily through her nose, which was healing remarkably well. “Lokni I would ask you to remain inside––” One of the hornets had peeled away from the roof, swooping in large circle above their heads. Narrowly missing them. “Bollocks.” Akhila still ducked her head on impulse. “Right well, fly swat or not, we need to be rid of them.”
–
"We need to get in and get something over those damn windows or we might loose the medcenter to 'em!" Lokni hissed, the absence of time boring down on him like the walls of some unforeseen enclosure. Akhila, still had a hold on his hand, and following Zaid's advice he tried to ignore the T.V. heads that were surrounding them, the static displayed on the screens flickering like flame, as if trying to conjure forth an image.
Backing towards the door, Lokni motioned for Zaid to get his ass over to the entrance. He didn't like how the whirring and buzzing was drowning out his thoughts, how he could feel the wind from their mechanical wings buffeting against them, how the sound of their metal appendages were 'tink' 'tink' 'tink'ing' against the ground as they approached closer, like encircling wolves.
If only they could just get inside, shut the damn door, overturn some of those cots, and use the bed frames to barricade the windows. Did they even have a chance? The medcenter was not a a small structure. The numbers were increasing- the air a blur of yellow and flashes of wings.
"Who cares about who stirred em' up- just get on over h-" Lokni's words were cut short as his gaze fixated on one screen-was that Darcy?A memory- on the black beach- "Doesn't it sound just like that? Exciting?" her words echoed out with a metallic tinge to them, making her voice take on a twisted note of hysteria. Lokni was frozen to the spot, eyes trapped within the flashing static of the encroaching hornet.
–
Zaid admittedly hesitated to join the sixteenth Doctor Who and her oh-so trusty companion. The hornets seemed hostile to them after all. Perhaps only to Akhila, but now Lokni happily made himself a target too by sticking protectively by her side. What had Akhila done to gain the big man's loyalty like that? Zaid couldn't help feeling a little jealous.
But petty thoughts aside, he had to choose: join them, or turn tail and run. Instead, Zaid made a third, secret choice that he didn't even know he was capable of.
He focused on his internal weird molecular whirl. He had a clear shot of the rooftop hornets, in theory. With a husky roar, Zaid shot his hands out, with the intention of shooting a thick blast of destructive power at the hornets, blast them right off the Medicentre. Be a hero!
An explosion of viscous heat erupted from his hands...about two feet, like a blown nose gone wrong, or too-early ejaculation. The plasma blooped to the grass, fizzled. Two hornets continued their destruction, and one was now looking at him. A shot of Chance Darling on its TV screen head, laughing.
"Oh fuck me..." Zaid dashed towards the other two, as one hornet flew over to inspect Zaid's abandoned plasam snot. He shook his hands angrily, as if they were just malfunctioning TV controls. "It's better than that, honestly." He stared at the others, mostly Lokni. "Anyone else got any ability in them, to get them off that roof? Do I need to be cruel to you again, mate?" He then looked at Akhila, filling with embarrassment which Zaid tried to mask under her stern gaze. "What can you do, darling?"
–
Akhila would’ve been quite keen on the idea of getting inside, barricading themselves in, protecting the innards of the island’s sanctuary. Except Zaid appeared to be…glowing, again. This time Akhila was entirely cognizant of his explosive abilities. Akhila’s expression tipped into one of mild distaste, her bottom lip trembled at the sight of Zaid and his…plasma blast.
She blanched back to her hardened gaze as Zaid made a quick dash their way. “That was abysmal.” Akhila critiqued. How was it on an island of the queerest fantastical possibilities, Zaid had landed himself with…that. “Speed, I can move at rather unnatural speeds…I haven’t precisely tested the limits of it yet and stopping can sometimes be difficult.” Whilst her nose had healed remarkably well, that was no inspiration to chance it. The same could be said of Lokni. Akhila held her tongue there she wouldn’t comment on his behalf. Albeit she didn’t want to see anyone she might be inclined to call upon as a friend here rush heedlessly into danger.
Not even Zaid.
Though she did wonder precisely what Zaid meant by being cruel to Lokni, and why he’d so brazenly admit it. Then again, no stretch of the imagination was required, he was a nuisance. Above them there was a nauseating sound of metal on metal, Akhila felt the weight of the invisible timer pressing down on them. She stared upwards, scaling the slick concrete sides would not be the same as scrambling up a hillside. “Hmm…wait a minute.” Akhila zipped, skidding to a stop inside the medicentre to fetch a fire extinguisher. She hauled it outside coming to a nearly neat stop beside them both.
“Foam won’t hurt them but it might distract them, and then do you think you can do that again, but with more…oomph?” Akhila directed at Zaid, before she turned to Lokni. “All good?”
–
Trying as he might, Lokni could not hide his expression of confusion and slight disgust as Zaid's... load hit the grass and bubbled and fizzled into the air. Maybe Lokni wasn't the only one who was struggling with control, but now was not the time to be thinkin' bout that.
"That's a great idea!" Lokni blurted out at the sight of Akhila wielding a fire extinguisher. Maybe all they needed was a little time. Turning to Zaid, Lokni began speaking, his words a little more frantic, "you think you can do that thing again? Maybe if you get closer? Damn, If we can just get some time- I'm gonna' try somethin'- this might not go well."
After a quick rush around the medcenter, overturning beds and throwing the metal bedframes up against the windows, shielding them from the outside attackers, Lokni struggled to strategize. Whatever the wasps were doing they seemed to be much more preoccupied with tearing up Akhila's medcenter. As he rushed around in a flurry of action, Lokni kept thinking- were they waterproof? Would a little rain even do the trick? If he messed up and got himself knocked out again it wouldn't do anyone any good.
Taking the stairs two at a time he ran up to the second floor to the largest window that he could see from. "Take cover!" Lokni yelled out to where Zaid and Akhila were. Even he didn't truly know what was going to happen. Finally he took a deep breath. Channeling his chaos and panic, he held it in the center of his mind, allowing it to spread throughout his body as his bracelet began to practically vibrate against his wrist. And then- Silence.
Had something gone wrong? Frustration bubbled within his chest, turning to rage at his own uselessness until- A dark funnel began to form on the horizon, sweeping low until it touched down in front of the medcenter in a burst of sand and rubble. Hornets were siphoned from the air- being pulled farther into the sky beyond where eyes could see. A couple tiles from the roof also came loose, swirling upward.
The funnel raged for a time, and Lokni could feel his energy ebb as if it was being siphoned from his veins. He was struggling to hold it. The wind howled and the windows rattled dangerously in their frames. With a loud shriek of wind the windows shattered, nearly tugging Lokni off of his feet as his hair whipped around his head with the force of the twister. His feet were slipping- he held fast to the nearest door frame, trying to anchor himself while still holding on to that chaos within him- just a bit longer-
In that moment Lokni didn't know how any of this would turn out, but he knew that it would at least get some distance between them and the hornets. He just had to keep it together. From his mildly obscured perspective he could see the tornado twisting and rending the earth in front of the medcenter, a dusty tunnel of sparking mechanical parts, rubble, and roof tiles.
Already, Lokni could feel himself beginning to feel weak, but beyond the dark clouds he could see rubble and scraps falling into the ocean- He could let go now- right? he mentally asked himself before his body interjected- slumping to the floor. Gasping for air, he released a deep breath that he hadn't realized that he had been holding.
The chaos from outside seemed to subside, the storm subdued- and Lokni struggling to keep conscious. He blinked slowly, the upper part of his vision darkening like someone was slowly lowering blinders down in front of his head. Cold sweat broke out all over his body and he began to shudder. He forced himself to stay awake. "Akhila- Zaid- ya'll alright?" his voice came out more hoarse and pathetic than he had expected it would.

Hi everyone!
Admin here, with something...well, different.
So I've been on an SCP binge for like...A week and a half now. I'm talking HARDCORE BINGE. Idk why but I just love the stuff, you can check it out here! If you've never seen it I recommend it, there's also TONS of amazing YouTubers to make SCP content, I recommend TheVolgun and SCP-Illustrated!!!
Anyways, I made a thing! I'd put it under a cut but Tumblr mobile is garbage!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Operation Name: “Chainlink Eyes”
SCP(s) involved: SCP-3008
Head Doctor: Dr. ####
Assistant Doctor(s): Dr. ##### and Dr. ##
MTF Team(s) involved: MTF Team 776 (Standby)
GOI involved: N/A
Mission Statement: The rescue of civilian individuals trapped within SCP-3008.
Mission Instructions:
Several D-Class personnel are to enter SCP-3008, guided by radio contact and an unmanned video drone piloted by Foundation operatives stationed outside if SCP-3008
The D-class are to move as a group until one is commanded to stop moving and remain stationary.
The first D-Class is to stop immediately after entry of SCP-3008, now designated as D-Class-001.
The next is to stop at the furthest possible point that is still within eye contact of D-class-001, now designated as D-Class-002
The next is to stop within the furthest possible point that is still within eye contact of D-class-002, now designated as D-Class-003
And so on, essentially forming a “chain” of eye contact, and a path for return to the exit of SCP-3008. Should the group run out of personnel to form the “chain” of eye contact, a second group of D-Class personnel shall be sent into SCP-3008 and follow the “chain” until the end, then utilizing the new numbers to continue until reaching a survivor settlement.
D-Class personnel are absolutely not allowed to move from their position under any circumstances, failure to comply with this rule is an immediate mission failure and all D-Class personnel within SCP-3008 are to be considered lost and no rescue effort will be made.
Once the D-Class personnel come across a human settlement, they are to inform the individuals there of the exit and the strategy of rescue, and are to guide the trapped individuals out by sending them in the direction of the previous D-Class of the chain. D-Class are to also kindly request that the trapped civilians bring any and all records of their time within SCP-3008 out with them. These records are to be confiscated by Foundation personnel for study. Assurance of safety from any hostile instances of SCP-3008-2 is to be promised.
Under NO CIRCUMSTANCE is a D-Class personnel to lose visual contact with the D-Class in front of them, rescued civilians are to be instructed to not obstruct the sight of one D-Class to another. Instances of SCP-3008-2 are to be ignored.
Depending on the success of this test, future search and rescues will be conducted with the assistance of MTF Team 776 “Just Short of Lucky”
All rescued civilians are to be detained by foundation personnel, debriefed, and given Class A amnestics. Should any rescued civilians be considered useful for the foundation, they are to be either hired as Level 1 Researchers or taken as D-Class.
Mission is to be considered unable to continue and D-Class are to be recalled no time later than ninety minutes before SCP-3008's “Night Cycle” to avoid losses by instances of SCP-3008-2.
Ammendum-001: The use of MTF Team 776 was recommended by Dr. #####, and approved by Dr. #### and O5-#, due to their exceptional success rate in civilian recovery ops. This ammendum functions as a reminder to all Foundation staff that the “name” of an MTF Team is simply a code named used for easier recognition and simplicity's sake. Personnel assigned to this mission are to not argue with this decision.
Ammendum-002: A revision of this mission has been theorized and updated. As of ##/##/#### and signed into mission statement by Dr. Miller and Head Dr. #### all D-Class personnel are to be doubled up in pairs when they are split from the group, with the individuals handcuffed together by the same wrist (right to right, left to left) to prevent either from abandoning the other. One D-Class, designated D-Class-00X, will be the key holder for the handcuffs, and will be considered the impromptu leader of this expidition. D-Class-00X is to lead the pack and not be left behind as a link of the “chain”, all handcuffed D-Class personnel will be informed that D-Class-00X will uncuff them upon the success, or failure, of this mission. The pairs of D-Class personnel will now be referred to as D-Class-00(#)-A and D-Class-00(#)-B, depending on which number of the chain they are. D-Class-00(#)-A is to look forward to the next link of the chain at all times, while D-Class-00(#)-B is to look at the previous link of the chain at all times. Previous stated mission rules still apply.
Ammendum-003: Message from Head Doctor ####,
“Was this NOT clear in the mission instructions? Are you an idiot? Of course this mission will be carried out during the ‘day' cycle of SCP-3008, we're not risking civilian lives to instances of SCP-3008-2. Jesus Christ it's like I'm talking to fucking children here. This is why you're a level 2 researcher and I'm level 4. Next time use your fucking head you tart and read the damn file given."
Ammendum-004: The use of tracking animals to assist in the hunt for human settlements within SCP-3008 has been submitted for review.
Ammendum-005: Message from Head Doctor ####,
“For fuck's sake. Yes we're going to follow the usual selection policy of D-Class personnel when it comes to civilians. Absolutely no D-Class with history of unpredictable violence or sexual assault will be allowed to participate in this mission. I don't want another incident like [REDACTED] to happen again, do you? Jesus Christ I've taken Class C amnestics for that event and I still see the blood on the walls. There’s a reason the ethics committee made that policy. Now listen, ask me another dumb question, and I'll make sure you're a part of the D-Class team sent in, or maybe I can reassign you to SCP-####? Yeah. You don't want that? That's what I thought. Shut up and get back to work. We're trying to save lives here.”
Ammendum-006: Personnel assigned to this operation are to be warned of Dr. ####'s personality and attitude and are to be reminded of her importance to the Foundation. She may be a difficult person to work with, but she ultimately has the greater good in mind. Thank you, Signed O5-##
#not rwby#scp#scp foundation#scp 3008#there might be conflicting info here#i like the scp foundation#but i'm no expert in it#also think i got the ammendum thing wrong#but i'm lazy so whoops
Galra Internal Affairs
Note: Portions of entry ordered to be redacted by command
Subject - XQO.0043
Codename Wraith
Name: Belost Windor
Aliases: “The Watcher”, “Wraith”
Age: Roughly 150 Years
Height: 7′10″ since exposure
Weight: About 280 pounds with armor
Affiliation: Galra Empire, Imperial Army, & █ █ █ █ █ █ █
Time Since Exposure: 20 years
Notes:
Initial report filed by Agent G (see Internal Affairs record S-XQO.0043-001)
Followup report filed by Agent C (see Internal Affairs record S-XQO.0043-002)
Entry 1
There has been much debate surrounding the necessity of taking containment measures against XQO.0043. Agent G’s recommendations were always to maintain a hands off approach and to study the subject from a distance. The idea seemed to be a way to limit Wraith’s stress and suspicion. Given his newfound strength and distrust of authority, however, it seems necessary to implement some form of containment protocol.
While he has always been a loyal (if somewhat troublesome) soldier of the Empire, he is still dangerous. And rare. There are very few living quintessence-infused entities as it were, let alone ones who remain sentient and responsive. The potential for study is too great to pass up.
Over the coming weeks I will be implementing some safeguards. Wraith will continue to be observed, but from a closer proximity. Armed guards will be placed discreetly along his more common routes, especially those near the hangar. Guards at the reactor should not be necessary given his documented aversion to quintessence. If possible, lockdown drills should be run in the event an escape or hostile action is taken.
This leads me to another necessary protocol. Should Wraith ever become openly hostile, security will need a means to deal with him. Nonlethal methods should be exercised if possible, as previously mentioned he is simply too rare to squander. However, if necessary then lethal means should be allowed.
Multiple teams of no less than four guards each should be deployed. Given his speed, a more direct approach is not advised. Instead there is potential in exploiting his permanent night eye. Flashbangs should be used to disorient him long enough for tranquilizer rounds to be applied. His body seems to metabolize many different chemicals quickly, so speed and a large dose of tranquilizers will be necessary.
No chances should be taken if a lethal approach is warranted. Catch him in lock down and █ █ █ █ █ █ █ █ █ the ship. This will most likely kill some crew as well, so once again: A lethal approach is NOT recommended unless in extreme circumstances.
Entry 2
The newly added guards were noticed within a few days. XQO.0043... strongly requested.. they be removed. Request was denied and the subject became aggressive. Will be doubling the amount of guards posted.
This agent believes subject to have initially been given too much freedom. XQO.0043 was allowed to become complacent in being uncooperative. Will be scheduling another test this week.
Entry 3
Wraith has gone into hiding. His ship is still in the hangar but he has become... difficult to find. Wraith will need to come out eventually. Will update upon his reemergence.
Entry 4
Six days and he is still missing. Ship is still in the hangar. May start sending search parties.
Entry 5
The posted guards have been called off after they reported being watched.
Entry 6
Calling Agent G to advise on the situation after I woke to find my bathroom mirror shattered.
- Agent C
Addendum
Wraith resurfaced after nearly two weeks gone. Potential hiding spots will need to be mapped out. Subject has expressed well wishes in this agent’s return. Observation drones have been posted, guards removed, and no additional interviews beyond the regular have been scheduled.
Non-lethal containment protocol developed by Agent C seems sound and will be maintained. Orders from command have forbidden lethal measures upon this agent’s recommendation.
Will be requisitioning a new mirror for Agent C’s old / my new room.
- Agent G
